A fan-remake of Half-Life: Echoes is being developed for Black Mesa under the title "Black Mesa: Candidate Twelve".Despite this, going into Third-Person using the Developer Console reveals the player-model is the 'Walter' scientist from the Low-Definition pack.While removed from the finished product, the final release possesses a compiled version of Mr. Before it was finally cut, Backman considered the alien to be one of his favorite characters in the game. Echoes forces the user to use the HD Models. Friendly was still present in Half-Life as late as of the beginning of 1998.The Viewmodel arms are re-textured from Half-Life: Blue Shift's Viewmodels.Half-Life: Echoes uses Half-Life 2 models from time to time, The models used were Eli, G-Man, and a low poly Alyx Vance.It’s an idea that was kicked off by Half. The climax features a recreation of the ending of Marc Laidlaw's fan-fiction "Epistle 3" (which featured a possible story outline for the unreleased Half-Life 2: Episode Three) with Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance on the Borealis heading for a dyson sphere, with the G-Man appearing and taking Alyx away from Freeman as depicted in the story. Half-Life: Echoes is the latest in a long tradition of Half-Life fan creations geared at retelling the Black Mesa disaster from alternative perspectives.It ties into plot threads brought up in the later Half-Life games such as Half-Life 2: Episode Two, such as The G-Man being responsible for delivering the Xen crystal sample and starting the incident. The player takes control of a scientist simply known as "Candidate 12" and his perspective of the Black Mesa Incident.
